Surgical treatment may be necessary for larger ectopic pregnancies, those that have ruptured, or when experiencing severe symptoms. Surgical options include laparoscopy for tissue removal or, in more severe cases, a laparotomy, which is a more invasive surgery. The prognosis after an ectopic pregnancy varies, but many women can still conceive in the future. It's vital for women to receive follow-up care, as ovulation and pregnancy can occur even following an ectopic pregnancy.
